Also, not only did I think in the middle of the ep that they had basically just made my Stormcage fic perfectly canonical, I was not the only one. :D :D

I have so much flail I need to post about it quickly before I re-watch and get an actual coherent commentary out. Also I watched it on iPlayer and the stream wasn't that great so I want to see it in higher def. But a couple things I cannot hold back on.

DOCTOR WHO!!1!

This is the season of "...and how did they get that past the censors?" I'm so used to innuendo that it wasn't till I was going to sleep that I really twigged quite how salacious some of that was. Well done, the Moff!

I cannot wait to see the end of this, and I'm probably going to hold out on that before I think seriously about the story, but I hear huuuuuge amounts of it echo throughout the season, so. Excited. (And unspoiled, mostly, fyi.) Very happy to see this back on my screen. :D

I am still trying to finish my year-in-review post, omg epic fail. Is it still worth posting, or should I just get started on next year's? ;)

Today, among other things, jae and I had an erotic roll, complete with ecstacy sauce. None of that is a euphemism. I believe jae has pictures.

I'm not generally an audiobook person, but I think I might make an exception for this version of Rebecca read by none other than Alex Kingston. And for only a tenner! Well, okay.

I have been working my way through the 1970s-era Wonder Woman (for work! no, really.), specifically the period where she's been de-powered and made to put on a rather ridiculous costume that does at least come with pants... I'm having a bit of deja vu with the current storylines, shall we say. The 70s version is getting a little tiresome, too. However, I do like the classic Dick Giordano look better than the artist on the current book who can't decide whether Diana is a C-cup or an F-cup from panel to panel.

Speaking of the dissertation o'doom, I have entered the phase where I turn to self-bribery to push through. First bribe: once I finish this chapter I am allowing myself to register for vidukon! I will probably feel a little silly being a non-vidder at a vidding con, but cosmic_llin and carawj are going, plus I hope to carve out time for some serious River Song geekery with beccatoria... yes? :D

I finally got to the Art Gallery of Alberta yesterday with my mom, and we had a great time. The main exhibit was Edward Burtynsky - Oil, which was really fascinating - especially as, for those of you who don't know, Alberta has huge oil reserves in the north of the province, the extraction etc of which are the source of much political and economical discussion. It was definitely a thought-provoking exhibit, and do click through and take a look at the gallery on the site - just remember we were seeing the photographs on canvases of several feet tall. We also had a nice lunch and a lovely conversation. I refuse, in self-defense, to talk about myself while my stepfather is in the room, so it was good to have a chance to talk to her while we were alone. ("We should do this more often!" she said afterwards. "We actually get along!")

In separate conversations with jae today, we talked about a) her new Kindle and b) my struggles not to buy physical copies of stuff that I can buy digitally, given that I don't know where/how often I'll be moving in the next few years. It wasn't until well after I left that I put together my complete inability to not buy books with the portability of an ebook reader. No, really, I have been so resistant to the concept (because it's not a book) that it took this long for me to figure out how it could actually be useful. Now I want a Kindle, dangit, but of course there's no way one will ship to me before I leave, and they're way more expensive in the UK. I may see if Chapters has any Kobos in store, just to take a look at, but the Kindle reads a lot more file formats, plus I would want to be able to read journal articles on it. I knew I would give in sometime, but this is a particularly inconvenient sometime!

Guys, I FUCKING LOVE how many of you have posted about the Doctor who series six trailer going, "OH WOW, I bet tellitslant just fell OFF HER CHAIR!" It's nice to have my fannish predilections known. I mean, I'm so subtle about them.

For the record, at no point did I actually fall over, although there may have been bouncing and clapping and squeeing and this bit right here might have actually been making me flush: ( not really a spoiler, but a gif, of what I'm sure you can't guess ) I am, however, excited about basically EVERYTHING that was in that trailer. So much flailing, and I am looking forward to it immensely.

Speaking of Alex Kingston, my Yuletide is MADE. I got TWO Treats, for the very first time ever. The first one, waiting, is a lovely and evocative Batwoman haiku. The second one is a Hope Springs fic. Yes, I got an Alex Kingston source for Yuletide omg omg squeeeeeeeee. Dreams is a pre-series Ellie and Hannah vignette, and it's awesome. I am so thrilled about everything I got, and my recipient liked both his/her fics, and, yay.

I haven't actually read much of anything besides my fics, but I am going to settle in this evening and do some serious reading.

And remember, guess my fics and win! Some of you have left comments/kudos on one (or both) of mine, so I know you're reading... :P

My very dear Yuletide Writer! Let me blather on at you about what I like!

I like awesome women being awesome. You may pick up on this based on my requests. *g* The canons I'm interested in here have done such amazing jobs giving us strong, flawed, interesting, multi-faceted women that I just want more of all of them.

I like dark fic and happy fic, sexy fic and gen fic, backstory and future-fic, as long as it is in character and in keeping with the feel of the canon. (I mean, you can do happy fic in Secret Six, but it's a very different kind of happy, you know?)

I have tried to give several varied suggestions of what I might want to see in each fandom; what I don't want is a fic that tried to cram them all together into one by flitting about from scenario to scenario. I would much rather see one idea developed than see someone try to pack everything into a thousand words!

I love stories that flesh out moments in canon, giving us a look at the background we knew was there. I like plot. I like getting to know more about characters who have fascinated me for some reason, and findint out why and how they fascinate other people. But mostly, I like that you're writing a story about one of these texts that I love, and that it's for me!

First, and briefly, because I so don't have the time to outline all the awesome: The Good Wife. This week's episode, man, amazing on so many levels. Why is everyone not watching this show? Also, DAMN, red is really Alicia's colour. I would like them to do more episodes where everyone is in formalwear.

Second and more importantly, however, zulu wrote me more fic! The Circumference of Comfort is Doctor Who, River/Amy, R, and AWESOME. It gets points for being adorable AND points for not trying to pretend Rory doesn't exist! Now the fic I owe in return will have to be particularly fabulous, but I'll worry about that later and just enjoy this now. Go read, and tell her to write more Who stuff! *g*

And now bedtime so I can get up super early, which is not awesome, but oh well. :D
