I am trying to figure out how I feel about The River Song Reveal

And I think the thing is - I'm probably not going to be writing fic about that aspect of her life, but as yet I don't feel like it invalidates or changes any part of her story as we knew it before. The bigger reveal for me is her partial Time Lady-ness, which I feel could make it slightly less amazing that she can pilot the TARDIS/speak Gallifreyan/whatever, but doesn't necessarily do so. I don't feel like being Melody Pond changes any of the things I like about her, or any of the fic I wanted to write about her (glad I only wrote that one River/Amy, hahaha), or any of the ways in which she is awesome. So I am okay with it, if not over the moon.

I also still don't think we know anywhere near the whole story about her, so I remain intrigued.

(Though - the Doctor's face when he found out! ADORABLE.)

Also, not only did I think in the middle of the ep that they had basically just made my Stormcage fic perfectly canonical, I was not the only one. :D :D

Awww, man, but I wanted to write River/Amy for femslash this year!

This episode felt kind of chop-a-block to me, and too similar to last season's finale with everyone showing up at the end; but once River was on screen to tell the Doctor why he's universally feared, things improved immensely.

I actually enjoyed the episode itself a lot - it felt like a wild and awesome ride (though you're not wrong about how similar to the last finale it felt). I'm still not 100% sure how I feel about the reveal, though I have come to the conclusion that how I feel about River hasn't changed.

I honestly think it makes things about River even more awesome, to be frank. And her relationship with the Doctor even more tragic, frankly.

I also thought of your story! It's really a brilliant piece of work.

But I wanted to ask you about the whole River-runs-backward theory, which I think this episode disproves. Because River buys (or extorts, if you rather) her vortex manipulator from Dorium Maldovar, but he dies in this episode, which is also set on the actual day of her birth. And then River shows up, from the future, wearing the same vortex manipulator he sold her.

Which proves that her meeting with the Doctor at the end of 6x07 has to be later than the Pandorica stuff in 5x12. Except for the fact that if Dorium died on the day of River's birth, he can't be around to sell her a vortex manipulator forty or fifty years later. Argh.

And she's also wearing her vortex manipulator all through "The Impossible Astronaut," which would explain how she got from the 52nd century to the 21st, but puts that episode post-Pandorica, too.

Wow, I thought I had something that made sense when I started typing, but I seem to have succeeded in confusing myself. But I really do think Moffat has written himself in a corner and at the very least River's appearance at the end of this episode is later in her timeline, not earlier. So your theory that she doesn't always appear previously in her own timeline holds true.

I loved when the Doctor could completely not accept that Amy and Rory would have had sex on the TARDIS. LOL. Which is why they had bunkbeds. Hahaha.

LOLOL I knew from the moment they showed the baby's name was Melody that she was River Song, and my immediate reaction was, "But Amy/River is so sexy, dammit!"

Yeah, that was the moment I got it too. SIGH. Oh well, at least we got the Victorian interspecies lesbians of awesome and swordfighting to make up for it. :P
