sailing the fingers of the dragon

I spent the weekend virtually attending vidukon_cardiff and it was a delight! I can't believe it's been ten years since the first one I went to. (But then, what is time.)

The femslash vidshow that walkthegale and I VJ'd went incredibly well and I am full of feelings about it. Ten years ago when we did the first femslash vidshow, the organisers put us on at 9am on the Sunday, the room was half-empty and half-asleep, and though we had fun with it, the whole thing fell a bit flat. (I am speaking for myself here and not walkthegale).It was very much of its era in terms of femslash and its acceptability in mainstream fandom.

But what a difference a decade makes! We had so many vids to dig through to compile the show from, we had a prime Saturday afternoon/evening spot (helps to know the concomm v well *wink*), and the crowd in the Discord chat was so vocal and excited and appreciative of the vids and the show order and eeeeverythiiiiiiing. I really feel very pleased about it all. A couple of people also talked about the 2011 show as a turning point in making the con more femslashy, and that makes me tremendously happy.

(It's also really lovely to think about how a decade ago walkthegale and I were just starting to be friends - I think the vidshow was one of the first things we worked on together at all! - and how solid that foundation has proven to be!)

As with all cons, I have come out of it wanting to create all the things and talk to all the people!!! I am... definitely not going to have time to do any of that. But maybe I could write a little fanfiction, as a treat? (I am absolutely kidding myself. But this is how it always starts! This is how they get you!)

Sooo I know I mentioned I'll be attending vidukon, the UK-based vid con in Cardiff in April. But now! New and exciting development! carawj and I are running the femslash vidshow!!1!

Yes, two non-vidders are VJ-ing. I'm sure we'll be fine. :P *breathes*

But here's where you come in! We need vids! So please run, don't walk, to Cara's LJ and suggest the awesomest femslash vids out there. They don't have to be new - although if you wanted to make something for us, you know, we wouldn't say no - but they do have to be cool. Any fandom, any pairing, as long as it's femslash-tastic! Our due date is February 13th, so before then, please and thank you? :D

Also, completely unrelated to the rest of this post, but I have to share it: I just ran across Boss, which is a The Good Wife/Scott Pilgrim (movie) crossover-fusion piece. It bills itself as G-rated Ramona Flowers/Roxy Richter, Ramona Flowers/Scott Pilgrim, Roxy Richter/Kalinda Sharma, and basically is what would happen if Kalinda were dropped into the Scott Pilgrim universe. If you know both canons you MUST read it; it is hilarious.
