So after standing in line for a truly hilarious amount of time yesterday (we, um, got in line for the 7pm Imax show and just shuffled up until we were head of the line for our show, at 10, which was delayed but had 3D unlike the previous showing, so I am on very little sleep and lots of leftover jellybeans), guess which movie I REALLY REALLY want to talk about now?

OMG THERE IS A GET SMART TRAILER OUT OMG OMG YAY.

I am sooo excited about the Get Smart movie, seriously, because I LOVE GET SMART and this role has just been waiting for Steve Carell. He looks disturbingly perfect in the trailer, though I think they need to give Anne Hathaway that Agent 99 bob before she's exactly right. ;) Alan Arkin as Chief is great too. YAY GET SMART.

*cough*

So about that other movie... the short version is, I loved it. The slightly longer version is, I loved it, with one major exception. The looong version is slightly more complicated, but I still loved it.

My major problem was the way they dealt with Sirius's death. It's not that they used the killing curse - I still refuse to believe he's dead so there *g* - but that they went all crappy CGI on it. I mean, the Potter films generally have good CGI (Grawp notwithstanding), but Sirius going through the curtain was just... lame. That made me sad, because instead of thinking "ZOMG SIRIUS" I ended up thinking "Why did you have to bust out the crappy CGI on a scene that just needed a greenscreen?"

I also have to say that, cool as Harry writhing around pretending he was a snake was, the whole "You will never know looooove" thing was just a tad too heavy-handed for my liking.

I am of course sad about a lot of the stuff that was cut - I particularly missed Tonks and Ginny getting to kick serious amounts of ass - but there's nothing off the top of my head that I really think was a mistake changing. It's interesting to note that the absence of Molly's Boggart makes for a strong case against any of the Weasleys dying. Also of interest was the lack of Mundungus, which makes me think I need to throw out my pet theory that the Horcrux-locket was hidden in Grimmauld Place by Regulus and then nicked by Mundungus. Hrm. (On the plus side, since we don't have kick-ass Tonks as a starting point, maybe we won't have to watch her wilt over Remus next movie!) There wasn't nearly enough Neville-ness, either, and I am weirded out that there was no real exploration of his part in the prophecy.

I know a few people didn't like it, but I thought Sirius saying "Nice one, James" was actually a lovely, gutwrenching bit of screenwriting shorthand. And oh, I loved everything about the battle at the Ministry, even the swoopy Death Eater smoke. I mean - Bellatrix! Lucius! Neville! Eeeee! It was great in 3D. SIRIUS PUNCHING LUCIUS INNA FACE YAY.

Umbridge was faaabulous. When she slapped Harry, I think the entire theatre jumped in shock. I'm not entirely sure I liked the introduction of sillinesses like "Boys and girls will be eight inches apart at all times," but whatever, she was excellent, watching her face off against McGonagall was just too good, and, yeah.

I would really, really have liked more Ron. And Remus, although there was much excellent R/S subtext.

I found it quite captivating for most of the film, which is a feat considering the suger/caffeine/booze/general squee fuelling me by that time, heh.

Helena Bonham-Carter is like unto a god of creepified sexiness. Ditto Jason Isaacs. As usual, I find myself wanting to close my eyes and listen to Alan Rickman read the phone book.

...I really am about halfway to talking myself into seeing it again here. (In fairness, it's damn hot out. Again. And air-conditioning is good. Quick, convince me otherwise or I may see it again...)

Oh! In my post, I mentioned that there was a part of the film that made my whole body tense and my fists clench in anger, but I couldn't remember what it was anymore. That was it!

That's probably good. I've spent all morning in the pool and I'm about to go to my cousins' to float in their pool. Holy god, it's hot. I mean, I love these days, but DAMN, IT'S HOT!

I guess South Ed is better for you? Either there or Silver City Scotiabank (wtf) for me. I don't want to see it in IMAX. Pick a time (http://www.edmovieguide.com/cgi/movie-find.cgi?movie=Harry+Potter+and+the+Order+of+the+Phoenix) and text me, but remember I'll need at least an hour's notice!

SQUEEEE! Yes, OH YES, re: everything!!!!

I'll write up my thoughts tomorrow as I have post-movie migraine, which to my saddness, I get after every movie I see in theatres. Kind of takes the fun out of things.

But I enjoyed this movie VERY MUCH :o) Definitely seeing it again!!!

I would have loved to have seen more Tonks. Seriously, Tonks/Natalia Tena is my new movie girlfriend ;o) SQUEEEEEE! And Luna was a very pleasant surprise -- she was fabulous!

Btw, did they show the trailers for Enchanted and The Golden Compass for you guys? My friend and I were dying laughing at Enchanted -- because how funny is it for animated people who become non-animated to try to do the whole cliched song & dance routine in modern day New York City, only to have people tell them, "No, please...you don't have to sing!" or get trampled by cyclists in Central Park? :D Heee! And Golden Compass...oh my lord...Nicole Kidman...I'm sure I will melt into a puddle of goo when I see the entire film...the trailer was outstanding...and Daniel Craig...!!!! And the witches! (I really need to go back and re-read all those books again ;o)

OOTP is my favorite of the books, and a lot of that is because of my love for NEVILLE (!). I love Neville. I love how brave he becomes in the book, I love how much better and confident he gets in the D.A., and most of all, I love the scene where everyone sees him and his parents at St. Mungo's. I was pretty upset that they didn't put it in the film. Partly because I was hoping they'd have an excuse to put in potty Kenneth Branagh.

But I really didn't like what they did with the ending. Part of what I love about OOTP is that Harry does NOT reign triumphant and heroic at the end. It's horrible, he hasn't done much, he's lost Sirius and put his friends in danger because he was STUPID. For once he doesn't get lucky and save the day. I hate that I feel like they added that V-mort possession thing to make Harry seem like he's done something heroic and brave. He has to stop being brave and start to actually think and reason. But most of all, I hated that they didn't do that awesome half hour later convo with Dumbledore. Because frankly? The first time I read that line about not making Harry a prefect, I cried like my dog died. I really wanted to see it. Maybe it's better they dind't, though- Michael Gambon could've ruined it for me forever.
