tellitslantWork is absolutely driving me up the wall and I'm just not even going to talk about it because no one wants to hear it. (Are you hiring?) And I've been either working late or just working too hard to do much of anything creative. I had $400 worth of unexpected plumbing this weekend and it's cold and damp but I have to ice a minor strain. And also, I really don't enjoy my body's response to stress. I need a fucking tranquilizer and to stop drinking caffeine.
So I thought, why not get into playoff hockey?!?
I think I mentioned that I am trying to become a women's sports bro in general, and right now the PWHL is in the first round of playoffs. I have been a casual fan since the league started (this is its third year), but I realised recently why I haven't been not super invested and it's kind of funny.
I actually want to root for Montreal.
It's weird! This is the first time I am a fan of a team from a different city for no good reason! Obviously I retain my support for my hometown CFL team over the local team, but that feels logical!
Except, I know the reason. The reason is Marie-Philip Poulin and her wife, Laura Stacey, both of whom play for Montreal. Obviously all the teams have queer players on them, but Pou is just THE best player out there and has been incredible in the Olympics for years. And she and Laura are a delight!
I feel like I asked myself, am I more of a Torontonian or more of a lesbian? And I guess I got my answer. :P
PWHL playoffs are best of 5 and last night was game 2 for Montreal against Minnesota in the semi-finals. It went to triple overtime. That's practically a whole nother game! (I did not last past first OT because I had to start work an hour early.) And of course Pou came up with the game-winning goal to tie the series. On her wife's birthday.
I MEAN, C'MON.
Minnesota has won the league for the last two years, so I would be rooting against them anyway. The other two teams in the playoffs are Ottawa and Boston, so I am cheering for Ottawa out of national pride. But really, I just want Montreal to take it already.
