Dear Writer,
Hooray, it's femslash time! I'm very excited to see what you come up with. I have listed some general likes and dislikes, but I'm also very open to you writing the story of your heart, as long as it doesn't contradict my DNWs. Have fun!
If you're here browsing letters, my AO3 is
kathryne.
do not want
I do not want to read: rape; animal abuse or death; self-harm; kid!fic. I am okay with violence in service to the story; I am okay with canon-typical violence (because boy there is a lot in some of these canons!). I'm also not interested in complete AUs (ie, coffee-shop-type AUs). I do enjoy AUs where one thing in canon is changed and we explore the ramifications of it.
I’m not a big fan of the heteronormative assumption that there’s only one way to progress a relationship and anyone in a relationship must necessarily want co-habitation and homeownership and marriage and children. In fact, I’m really not interested in stories about child-rearing, though dealing with adult children already established in canon can be interesting.
do want
I love stories about women relying on each other. I like seeing moments in fic that give deeper meaning to moments we see on screen. I like porn; I like G-ratings; I like ratings in between. I strongly prefer more developed stories rather than shorter vignettes strung together on a theme.
I love complicated relationships between complicated women, where things aren't necessarily completely straightforward but that doesn't mean they're wrong. I love power dynamics, and subverting them.
If you feel like going for some good old tropes, some of my favourites include: bedsharing; road trips; huddling for warmth; mutual pining that gets resolved.
MCU: WandaVision - Agatha Harkness/Wanda Maximoff
I loved this show and how twisty and fucked up it was, and how well it dealt with the fact that Wanda's deepest desires could be truly terrible for her. Her decision in the finale to trap Agatha forever within Agnes and leave her someplace where Wanda could either control her or use her embodies that tension.
I'd love to read a post-canon story about the times when Wanda returns to check on Agnes, and, perhaps, lets Agatha out to play in a controlled environment in hopes of learning from her. How do those power dynamics interact: Wanda's skill, Agatha's knowledge, both of them needing something from the other?
If you want to write an in-canon story, I'd particularly love to read something set in the 50s or 60s settings. Maybe Agatha wonders if seduction is the best way to get close to Wanda and decides to... test that out? Maybe Wanda finds herself drawn to Agnes for reasons that she doesn't entirely understand?
I absolutely do not want a fluffy story for these two, but would love to see what kind of bond forms between them despite themselves.
DCEU: Wonder Woman - Diana/Barbara Minerva
Uhhhh please write me all the FoeYay? All Barbara wanted was to be like Diana... and, okay, she went about it ENTIRELY the wrong way, but that twisted admiration is still in there. Diana has been forcing herself to hide away from the world for decades and Barbara was possibly the first time she tried to make a friend in years. They've bonded!
Does Barbara try to regain her powers? What has she learned? (Does Diana believe she's learned anything?) Does Diana try and find her after the end of the film, and if so, does she feel betrayed - or is she just happy that Barbara has survived? Diana has clearly spent decades flitting from museum to museum - do they end up encountering each other professionally, somewhere a few years down the line?
Fighting-to-fucking is always fun, too, I'm just saying.
I am a long-time comics reader, so if you want to pull in anything from any Wonder Woman comics, go for it. If not, though, no worries!
DCEU: Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn - Renee Montoya/Helena Bertinelli
I will admit to being a fan of this in the comics and wanting to explore how it plays out in the film, but if you don't know the comics at all that is TOTALLY FINE. I just want to see the two of them interact more. Helena is so awkward and Renee is so dorkily enthusiastic. What can they teach each other? What edges do they rub off each other? How do their coping methods interact?
Renee clearly knows all about the Bertinelli Massacre - how does that influence how she acts around Helena? Helena needs new mentorship in crimefighting now that she's killed all the people on her hit list - how does Renee work with her? How do they decide on their snazzy crimefighting costumes (leather kink, sure)? Do they and Dinah all live together someplace bought with Bertinelli money (omg they were roommates)? Please feel free to include the other Birds as secondary characters.
Star Trek Picard: Raffi Musiker/Seven of Nine
GOSH, I have so many feelings about just the tiniest touch of their hands, RIDICULOUS, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME, etc.
I would adore a story filling in the details about how they got together. I'd love to read a first time for them. Raffi really seemed to enjoy putting handcuffs on Seven - what's that about, hm? What sort of side trips do they go on, just the two of them? Something that's really deep into a single point of view - either Seven or Raffi - would be delightful emotional porn. I want them to be good for each other, at the base of it.
If you tell a story that involves alcohol, please don't gloss over the fact that Raffi is an addict and so the two of them getting drunk together isn't necessarily a positive (this doesn't mean don't do it - just please be thoughtful). I'm happy for the other characters to cameo, but please keep the focus on Raffi and Seven.
Hopefully this will give you some ideas... I look forward to reading what you come up with!
