I am taking part in the [community profile] snowflake_challenge this year, and the first prompt is an intro of yourself! Almost certainly none of this is new if you’ve been following me for a while, but if there’s anything in here you want to ask about, feel free. If you friend me because of this, I’d love a note to say hi and let me know what’s caught your interest!

I am tellitslant on dw (and no longer posting to lj); kathryne on AO3; sapphoshands on tumblr. I technically have Discord but I am v bad at it.

I have been in online fandom to some degree or other since about 1995/96, which is frankly amazing. I posted my first proper fic to a newsgroup in November 1997 (though I think I’d written some drabbles and round-robins before that): it’s still online under a different pseud, no you can’t know what it is, yes it makes me cringe a lot to re-read. But you know what? It wasn’t terrible. :P

My fannish history is incredibly multifandom, but I am always most interested in the female characters. I read and write femslash and female-focussed gen, with occasional forays into het if the man in the pairing is very, very good to and for the woman. I haven’t written any agender or genderqueer characters yet, I don’t think. My fic-writing brain and time have dropped precipitously over the past couple of years, though I always try to hit [community profile] femslashex and [community profile] yuletide. I would like to write more this year, but I would like to write more every year.

Big moments in my fannish history have included Battlestar Galactica (Laura Roslin and the BSG femslash community ftw), Grace and Frankie (old lady femslash ftw), Doctor Who (River Song’s hair ftw), Warehouse 13 (what season five?), and Sanctuary (Magnus and her competence ftw). For shorter flings, take a look at my tags list or my AO3 profile.

I have always been a Star Trek fan: I haven’t been seriously fannish about it since alt.startrek.creative.erotica.moderated, but Discovery (so many women and queer characters and characters of colour, THANK YOU, FINALLY) and now Picard (omg canon queer Seven ftw) have brought that back into my life. I dream of writing fic for either someday soon. Yes, I know they’re both of variable quality; no, I don’t care.

I have also always been a comics fan: I’ve drifted away from Marvel (with the occasional exception for Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman; I float around the corners of the MCU), keep an eye in on DC (Wonder Woman forever and always, also some Bat-verse), and touch on creator-owned stuff that catches my interest (Greg Rucka, Gail Simone, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Matt Fraction, Phil Jimenez, Nicola Scott, plus almost anything with queer female characters). I kind of dream of catching back up with X-Men, but that’s… probably not going to happen. Always open for comics recs!

Currently I dabble in The Old Guard fandom for film and comics. I am also planning to start writing for the Wonder Woman filmverse (though I am not unaware of its flaws, I point you to my extremely spoilery reaction post for Wonder Woman 1984 as a good way to understand my feelings on the topic).

Outside of the computer, I am a voracious reader. I have been training in powerlifting for several years and am really struggling with transitioning to at-home workouts while gyms are closed (I hate working out at home, I really do, and I miss barbells). My 2020 goal was to bench-press 185 lbs before June, but injury and pandemic made that impossible, so I’m hoping to get back into gyms and revisit that goal before the end of 2021. I am a Canadian in Toronto; I previously lived in England for several years. I am an ex-academic and now work in the media industry. I got my first office job using coding skills I learned on Geocities. I am an inclusive queer lesbian feminist: this means to me that, among other things, I am explicitly anti-TERF and pro-trans people, trans women, and trans lesbians; I reject the claim ‘queer is a slur’; as a white woman I work to consider, centre, and amplify BIPOC voices and to interrogate my own inherent biases and privileges; I believe in a big queer umbrella and the unifying, healing force of queer solidarity; I am pro-sex workers; I am anti-censorship. There’s probably more, but I honestly can’t believe some of the crap out there lately. Mostly I believe in kindness… sometimes violently.

My journal has a lot of locked real-life posts, so I tend to subscribe without immediately granting access, at least for a bit. I also may not subscribe if I don’t have the time to up my reading list, but I try to always answer and be active in comments.

Fingers crossed for you being able to get back to the gym and to that great 185lbs bench goal in 2021!

I'm in Buffalo! ::waves at you across the lake!::

Some folk can do at-home things but, yes, powerlifting at home isn't easy. You have an amazing goal and I hope things settle down so that you can go back to working on that again!

Write those Discovery and Picard fic! That's the beauty of broken canon... we can fix it and make it better! Hope you get to do that.

So glad you participated in this first day of Snowflake... hope to see more of you during the month!

Hello fellow femslasher! Just popping in to say I am a big X-Men comics fan and have been reading them steadily since 2012, if you ever have questions regarding catching up or recs. Cheers :)

Hello from the Snowflake and thank you for a wonderful intro. I'm still only in the Harry Potter fandom, but a DW friend ([personal profile] delphi) showed me a glimpse of how lovely The Old Guard can be!

Oh god, I miss River Song so much ;___;

You have so many pseuds, I feel like I'm always losing you! This post is a very hand reminder.

Hello, kind-of neighbor. I live in upstate NY and we've visited Toronto exactly once. It was lovely.

Grace and Frankie is such an awesome show! More people need to watch it.

I enjoyed Picard immensely.

Yes, I know they’re both of variable quality; no, I don’t care.

That's true love. *g*

Have you read Seanan McGuire's Spider Gwen comics? I read her other work, but I've heard good things about this.

The Old Guard!!!! I'm a Joe/Nicky fan, but I'm also very aware of the deep and abiding love of Andy/Quynh.
