GOD THIS SHOW.

ahem.

I'm so distressed about it I woke up half an hour early. Not to make this entry, mind, just... because it was on my mind. :P

VINDICATED: Gill's drinking being flagged up as a problem; Gill being the one to spill the beans to Rachel. Oh WAIT, both of those are TERRIBLE things to be vindicated about and I should not be celebrating. D: Also: the whole thing where the entire syndicate is clearly on Gill's car-clearing duty honestly just ties me up in knots about their loyalty to her and where her pride comes into having to ask for help or whether, like with Rachel, she just forced herself to wait until someone offered. OH.

These things are unacceptable.

I do like that so far Gill is managing her work life without trouble, though. Personal life goes pffft, professional life stays good. I like that as a theme about this show - they get their drama out of personal lives and yet it rarely fucks over their jobs.

I also ADORED the conversations this show had around hookup culture (even if I giggled every time they said 'clicker,' like, I guess that's meant to be kijiji, but, heeee). I loved that Janet and Rachel had a clam, reasoned conversation about how hookup culture isn't a new thing and isn't for everyone but isn't worth judging; I loved having Rachel and her new man talk about statistics; I loved that it was happening in an episode that inverted the Janet-Rachel positions by having Rach in a lovely domestic relationship where she's clearly head over heels and Janet out (failing at) speed-dating. And I adore Rach being in a proper supportive relationship that is making her better and enabling her to cope like an adult, and Janet at the speed dating with her interrogation techniques (I can't remember, but was there a direct cut from the interview room to there? I think there might've been) was just darling.

The beginning scene with Janet and Rachel in the car, and the way they are still so in synch, was just lovely to see. We haven't had enough of them working together this season. And yet if they give us that only to tear it away later, I am going to be deeply sad! even so, I love that Rach is managing to be more of an adult - but she's clearly still sulky, even behind all her crime-solving mad skillz (her little mimes in Gill's office, my god *dead*). And I don't really want to see more Rachel and Janet fighting - I mean, this is a different situation than we've had before, but still, I don't LIKE it when they FIGHT. *hugs them*

God, though, Rachel as adult is so delightful. (And working with Gill and doing the party circuit and wanting to BE GILL and just killing it as sergeant.) And Janet's FACE and her EVERYTHING. And all of them, just. LADIES.

Aaaaand I'm gonna be late for work.

I WATCHED IT THREE TIMES.

I feel perhaps I haven't articulated how much I loved how feminist the discussions and treatment of sex mostly were in this episode? Rachel insisting on respect, Rachel being open about casual sex, Janet feeling very different but neither one having the SLIGHTEST HINT OF JUDGMENT about the other's feelings, Rachel and her sexy boyfriend's face off about how the justice system vindicates and doesn't female victims of sex crimes, frank discussions all around, really.

Nobody should fight ever. :((( But also Rachel is so adult now, bless. And after Janet figured out what the problem was, I think she did try to make it clear that she respects Rachel's authority? Precious aaaaangels.

Gill :((((

PS! The whole syndicate being on car-clearing duty. Head canon: The lads kind of ostentatiously get ready to leave, talking REALLY LOUDLY about getting out of there and moving VERY SLOWLY, so Gill can leave when they do and one of them can just check her car on the way and nobody has to say too much about it. :(((

(I made a lot of sad faces in this comment about this episode I liked very much? <3)
