In the midst of my weekly Scott & Bailey-induced freakout, other telly things, briefly:
The Good Wife 6x01
THAT WAS A BIT GOOD. I am not at all a fan of the Kalinda/Cary relationship, but I liked the way it played here, especially with the kind of quiet loyalty we see Kalinda giving when it really matters. Of course, I liked much more seeing Sophia back. Sophiiiiiiiaaaaa. I probably won't request it in Yuletide this year, but I do want to read more fic about their relationship.
The whole ep was just one series of startlements after another, which I love. I really have given up trying to predict this show, and I would still give a significant amount to hang out in its writers' room. I think that Alicia will probably run for state's attorney, but if she doesn't, I wonder if Diane might. Either way, I bet that the Gloria Steinem cameo in ep3 will be related to one of them taking the nomination.
I love that Alicia is so constantly wrong-footed in court - we don't see that often enough - and that we do see the depths to which people are willing to go for one of their own. That's the only thing that keeps me from saying she'll go for state's attorney unreservedly - I think the emphasis on that familial bond of the firm is strong enough that it would be hard to leave.
Of course, if Cary is kept in jail - and he very well might be for quite a while - I can see her using that as impetus to run.
Definitely looking forward to this season!
Gotham 1x01
That was... fine. I mean, if I really want stories about the GCPD, I'm gonna read Gotham Central for the eight zillionth time. But this show is at least very full of lovely ladies from the comics, which makes me happy, because the main focus is very dudely. I'm going to be honest: I didn't pay a whole hell of a lot of attention to the Gordon and Bullock show. Again. They were fine. But OH, RENEE. Victoria Cartagena's Rnee doesn't look quite right to me - a little too fine-boned? - but she sounds and moves so fantastically. The swagger. Grin.
Also: Fish Mooney, pretty great.
I really thought the writing let this down - I think I'd've cared more about the dudes if they'd been written better. But, like. If your climactic finale centres around "Is Gordon gonna shoot a dude?" then maybe the dude shouldn't be the young Penguin... because we kinda know he lives. Ya know?
I'll keep watching it. I have hopes that it might get better, and it's certainly not bad.
Agents of SHIELD 2x01
I was already pretty meh about watching this, because the fandom, from what I can tell, is super wanky and white-boy apologist and generally not what I like to get into, plus I found what I watched of the show last year quite dull. But they promised us Lucy Lawless, and a Peggy Carter cameo, and a buncha other interesting stuff, so. I tried. And then halfway through the ep twitter spoiled me for Lawless's character's death, and you know, I'm out. I just. *hands* Tired of it. Tired. Of. It. I'll keep an ear out for anything interesting, but even outside of that it wasn't really grabbing me. So. Feh on you, SHIELD. I'm waiting for Agent Carter.
