tellitslant: Helen Magnus walking away from an explosion with a gun (sanctuary - helen - walk away from)

There was a lot of fantastic fic in the archive this year. Here is a collection of my favourites.

First off, I'm surprised I haven't heard people flailing about this one, because I feel like it should be this year's standout. I clicked through because I was side-eyeing the fandom and I am SO GLAD I did:

The Velvetskynn™ Rabbit (3540 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sex Toys (Anthropomorphic), Velveteen Rabbit - Margery Williams
Rating: Mature
*flaily hands* LOOK AT THAT TITLE AND THE FANDOMS AND THEN READ THIS DO NOT EVEN STOP. Don't read the tags, though, or you'll spoil the surprise crossover at the end.

As for the rest: brief recs in Addams Family, Avengers Assemble (comics), Batman (Nolanverse movies), Defiance, Elementary (including Elementary/Batwoman), Slings & Arrows, and Bomb Girls

College First (10332 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: The Addams Family (1991)
This is delightful – a look at what happens when Wednesday returns from college a single mother, it captures the tone and feeling of the canon perfectly and gives us a much more interesting grown-up Wednesday than the musical did.

The Pocket Prometheus (1133 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Addams Family - All Media Types
A lovely little look at the trials of being an Addams in a world that is far too mundane.

And all the while we wear a party smile (2453 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Addams Family - All Media Types
A really atmospheric (aren't all things Addams?), macabre, and heartwarming portrait of the love of the Addamses for their dear Wednesday.

Snow Day (1863 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Avengers Assemble (Comics)
*does a little dance* Carol/Jess with bonus Hulk and sandwiches! AND ICE MONKEYS. (I have so many feelings about the Hulk and Jess's pheromones and that is one of the weirdest sentences I've ever written despite being in fandom for forever and oh.)

she will carry the city inside of her (5574 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: The Dark Knight Legacy (Web Series), Batman (Movies - Nolan)
AU Steph Brown and Renee Montoya talking trash and solving crime! :D (Also I flailed a LOT at the end.)

These things without names (4002 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Defiance (TV)
Ughhhhh Stahma and Kenya, I have FEELINGS. This is a really fantastic piece of backstory for Stahma and her calculating self.

the truth may vary (1494 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Elementary (TV)
I'm a sucker for Moriarty and Joan/Moriarty, and this potentially-AU (you'll see what I mean) piece does a great job of bringing those two characters together and fleshing them out.

Team The Best Team (5715 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Elementary (TV)
I did not know how much I needed Marcus Bell flirting with Alfredo and Ms Hudson. I needed it a lot.

Mind Sport (10114 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Elementary (TV)
This is a nice, long, delightfully twisty story about Joan and Moriarty each trying to get the upper hand on the other, and I adore how it plays out.

The Evolution of Reptiles (7708 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Elementary (TV)
She doesn't know yet how long this will take her, how many sessions with Watson will occur before the end. How many pieces of herself Moriarty will need to snip away like fingers in a cigar cutter, packed in cotton and sent to a parent's doorstep. Proof of life. Magical realism Moriarty, and so much more. Um. Yes please.

The Iron and the Spark (12484 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Elementary (TV), Batwoman (Comic)
Iiiiit's a Batwoman/Elementary crossover. And it's good.

Ten (or Twelve) Plays in the Life of Geoffrey Tennant (8050 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Slings & Arrows
I love the attention this pays to the interaction between art and life, cliché as that sounds. Warning for some dubious consent. I particularly love Geoffrey's life post-series as seen here.

All We Get (11156 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Bomb Girls
This is a fantastic Betty/Reggie piece that is pitch-perfect and rough and real.

I maintain the offer: guess one of my two Yuletide fics and get a drabble or a ficlet or something.

Nice collection! How many more are you going to have, do you think? (I'm posting mine immediately after reveals this year, I think, but it's ready now)

Also: "or something"? Can that "something" be negotiated between the two of us? I'm crap at guessing and I feel like an idiot even trying, but if I could get, like, regular interaction on my journal with you for a pre-determined period of time, I'd totally spend the whole day today making the effort. ;)

Ok, I also side-eyed that Velvetskynn Rabbit rec and almost didn't read because of how it could ruin my childhood memories. But I read it anyhow - hilarious!!! Thank you for the rec, I would never have read it otherwise.
