Okay, thanks everyone who keeps asking me to write about comics and stuff, because I just went back and re-read a bunch of my DCU fic and oh, yeah. That's why I'm fannish about them.
(Also I've definitely done some of my best writing for Jeannette and for Renee. Um. Neither of whom exist in comics canon any more. Which is why I am no longer so fannish. Dammit, pendulum swing.)

Date: 2013-12-08 05:32 pm (UTC)Basically, about two years ago DC Comics rebooted their entire universe and started more or less from scratch as if the characters they were famous for were only just being introduced to audiences. All their books were relaunched at #1 and so on. Not every character who already existed was carried over into the 'new' universe, though. One of the most unforgivable things that DC did (in a whole whack of unforgivable things around the reboot which are most of why I'm no longer buying their books) was to get rid of the vast majority of the queer female characters they had. I don't think it was done deliberately, but nevertheless.
Renee does exist in the new 'verse but we've only seen her in pictures (or at least we had when I was still reading). Her entire, gorgeous, heartbreaking character arc has been totally dropped, and I think the straight white dude whom she replaced as a superhero is taking the name back. Jeannette, as far as I know, just hasn't shown up at all or been mentioned.
It makes me sad. :(
