Okay so we are NOT talking about how steamed I am by the TWO epic cases of plagiarism I had to deal with while marking today (I just... HOW STUPID do students think I AM? I CAN GOOGLE TOO. Ugh.).

So halfamoon is running from February 1st-14th again this year. It's a multifannish celebration of women, for those of you who don't know, and features any kind of fanwork focusing on women (read further info here). I try to write for it when I have time.

This year I am soliciting prompts! I make absolutely no promises about actually WRITING these prompts, but if you have ideas that might be suitable for halfamoon fic, please drop them in the comments. I might be particularly open to Warehouse 13, Sanctuary, and Code Name Verity prompts (if you are posting CNV prompts please leave some spoiler space at the beginning and end of your comment or be vague or something), but if you know I am or have been into a fandom feel free to give it a try. :P I might also be willing to do some meta if someone has meta they want me to write. Or this might be a good time to poke me for a fic recs post if anyone has any fandoms/pairings/characters they desperately want to read fic about.

You - yes, you! - should also write/podfic/draw/knit/make snow art about the fannish women of your choice. Just FYI. If you have time and stuff.

...yes I have a lot of fic that I'm technically in the middle of. Your point? *eyebrows*

I'm so sorry you have to deal with the plagiarism. :( Is your employer at least sensible about it? Mine is actually awesome about it (ANY plagiarism cases get escalated to the Dean's office, and it is taken VERY seriously and they side with the faculty member more often than not), but I know from College Misery that this is rare.

Meh. For the most part I don't know exactly what goes on after I find, document, and report the cases. They get assigned to a plagiarism officer; I believe the students have to speak to the officer, and often talk to a 'plagiarism board.' There is no record of this on the students' files, though; I have no idea of knowing whether an upper-year plagiarized is a first-time or multiple offender. It's mostly a slap-on-the-wrist thing as far as I know. I don't think anyone has ever been booted out , or even failed more than the particular assignment, over it.

I will try and write The Education at some point! But as I don't want to test your hopes up I can tell you that it's been too long since I watched tWW, and I was never writerly-fannish (autocorrect: writerly-Finnish, ha) about it, so chances of me writing anything in the crossover verse are next to nil.

Do you think it's intentional plagiarism or that students are missing out on instruction on how to cite their sources properly? I find it hard to believe that so many would risk it unless they actually are ignorant...

Well, of the four I've caught this term, one copy-pasted 700 words of a 1000 word assignment from various places on the Internet, one c&p'd from eight different sources while still citing the in-class reading, one copied a section that included a citation and managed to put that information in her bibliography, and one, who did have some citation issues, also copied without attribution from a text she had previously cited. This is after one or two lectures just from me on plagiarism and, in some cases, commentary on previous assignments about how to cite properly and where to find further information.

I gave the last one the benefit of the doubt when I passed it on to the course conveyor, but nope, pretty sure they're intentional.
