FLAILYHANDS OF GOOD WIFE LOVE

I cannot get over how much I love how this show is shot. The camerawork on that scene of Alicia in Peter's office is, you know what, simply lovely.

I love Alicia's emotionality in this whole "which guy do I go to first," but that idea is kind of... weird, also.

UM. Alicia as a gay icon in the blogosphere. HEARTS.

Aw, but Christine Baranski does play basketball. Why couldn't we have Diane playing a little? Siiiigh.

And, again, the cinematography just makes me so happy. That shot of Will and Elspeth and Kalinda in graduated steps away from the camera? The shot of Alicia and Peter in the kitchen, separated by that vast expanse of the island? Amaaaazing.

"Well, you would know about pros." OH SNAP, ALICIA. So much love for that scene, amazing.

GAH WILL'S FACE

*gigglefit* KIDS IN UGANDA SHOULD BE IMMUNIZED.

YESSSSSSS. Kalinda I love your face and your amorality and your burgeoning need to offer penance for all that you do wrong. Also your clothes.

Oh my god CARY TRYING TO PROTECT ALICIA. Cary you have grown up so much.

Ho-lee shit Alicia and Wendy facing off. INTENSE AND AMAZING AND INTENSE.

um, oh, gosh, Alicia rushing off to get to her children before the transcript is received, um <3 <3 <3

Okay I am okay with Diane not playing bball if we get more scenes of her dancing.

Alicia. That's not how you fix things. :(

Oh, Peter, you are such a dick.

I wish I had more to say about this show - I pretty much just sit down and stare at it with hearteyes until it ends.

Um, because Diane is not Christine Baranski, and no way would that be consistent with her character?

Golf, sure. Basketball? Diane?

Okay, phew! For a minute there, I thought you were letting feminism trump characterisation, and that just wouldn't do.

THIS. THIS SO MUCH.

And the camera framing those shots! I NOTICED THEM TOOOOO, because YES. Also Elspeth's strategy worked--again!

Argh, I know she's not on our "side", but I still felt awful for Wendy Scott Carr, when she got flustered. And I really don't want her to go to some over the top place where it gets all personal just because a grand jury went badly (or even just because she lost to Peter for DA). She's wonderful but they're making her into the Bad Guy (and on a show like this, those are not exclusive things, but still!). I'd like her to win a little more, but care a little less, just to round things out...DOES THIS EVEN MAKE SENSE. It does in my head. Also one of our characters should be brought to sympathize with her, and not in a "oh and turns out she had breast cancer" way. AM I ASKING TOO MUCH? The thing is, with this show, maybe not!

On this show it almost always evens out; we end up seeing everybody's good side and bad side.

I think my discomfort mostly stems from issues like the ones discussed here: http://squintyoureyes.tumblr.com/post/16825321892/falulatonks-this-weeks-the-good-wife-was

The whole thing about Diane saying she doesn't play basketball, to me it was like, Diane is saying "DUH! I'm not a man! Of course I was never invited to play, and if I went I wouldn't be welcome, my whole fucking career I've been missing out on the basketball networking, are you so young that you don't know?"

And then I started imagining that a tall woman with Diane's competitive drive, if she's about the same age as the actor playing her or maybe a little younger, she would have been an undergrad when Title IX was passed, she could have played college basketball but it would have been frustrating, and she would have stopped to save her energy for other courts. And of course all through law school and working with Stern and then the big-sports-fan Will, none of them would ever have thought of her as an athlete and she never would have mentioned it.
