You know, before grad school, I can't remember the last time I was ill to the point of vomiting. Now? Three times in the last twelve months. Seriously? I am not okay with this. I was actually so sick this morning that I fainted on the bathroom floor, which was unfun. I feel somewhat better now, but, damn. Short version: grad school is bad for your health, amiright? Feh.
So in the parts of my life that don't involve the death flu... yesterday I was kind of up in the air over shipping Sam/Janet from Stargate. Today? Today I am ridiculously flailyhands in love with the ship. What happened?
sophia_gratia and I watched "Hathor" and "Singularity," that's what. *flailyhands of looooove* I can't figure out how "Hathor" can be so incredibly awful and yet have such amazing moments of ladies being badass together (I mean, the writing, dear god, the writing). But tiny Doctor Janet in BDUs makes up for a lot of the worst bits. And then "Singularity," which illustrated a truth I had not previously understood: when Sam Carter cries, we cry. *whimper* I was not actually a big fan of the whole "Cassie has two mommies" trope in fandom, but now I get it. Damn.
...anyways, so,
sophia_gratia is an enabling enabler who enables, but I have high hopes of writing really rather a lot of fic this year. Also possibly a PhD. You know. On the side.

Date: 2012-01-23 06:17 pm (UTC)Ahaha, yes. Because, wow, she really does have two mommies (never is that more evident in the episode with Cassie's 16th birthday, good lord).
Feel better, dude.

Date: 2012-01-24 01:48 am (UTC)*facepalm* Shit! Now I'm going to have to write that story, aren't I? *adds that to the 16 other things due by 1st February*
ETA :: And now that I think about it. Sam was in a skirt. Janet was wearing pants, IMSC, but Sam was in a skirt. What kind of bribery did Janet have to resort to for THAT to happen? Damn it! Now I AM going to have to write that damned story, aren't I?

Date: 2012-01-24 01:55 am (UTC){1} How on earth would Sam fit into Janet's sweater-sets?
{2} Janet is attracted to Sam. Ergo, Janet is attracted to Sam's tomboyish t-shirt approach to life. Janet does not subscribe to the SG-1 writers' apparent belief that THE WORLD WOULD END if Sam Carter wore something other than pastels and skirts on her time off. (And if you really didn't watch post-'Heroes,' then you are BLISSFULLY unacquainted with the worst dress in the history of scifi TV, which Sam wore on a 'date' with 'Pete' [you know, before she shot him point-blank in the head for being a controlling douchebag].) In any case: Janet is a tiny, explosive force of resistance to writerly desires to contain Sam safely within normative femininity.
Ergo, we need a new explanation. That, I leave to you. Carry on. ;)

Date: 2012-01-24 02:09 am (UTC)BUT can we instead say that Janet lost a bet to Sam to have to wear that -- WTF god-awful conccoction of teal, turquoise, and white in conflicting strips -- outfit she was wearing? Now the style itself was fine for her. The color/striping combination? Notsofuckingmuch.
And WHY when your girlfriend is 8" shorter than you are, would you wear HEELS? I mean, unless said girlfriend
gets offis turned on by you towering over her, of course...And yes, I shall have to ponder this story now... Particularly since I have found a venue to be able to rewatch said ep for any canon info I need to glean from it.

As for how could the writing of "Hathor" be so bad and yet the women's interactions so good? Dude, Amanda Tapping and Teryl Rothery can run CIRCLES around the men in that cast. They are a force of nature when working together. They are the only reason I stayed with the show for as long as I did. And when Teryl went away, so did I. And with 2 exceptions, I never looked back.
