I am trying to comment on as many of the
sanctuary_santa fics as I can before reveal, which should be possible – it's a pretty tiny exchange, after all! It is a remarkably high-quality assortment of fics, but here are some of my very favourites so far
Armistice Day (John Montague Druitt/Helen Magnus/James Watson, John Montague Druitt/Helen Magnus, John Montague Druitt/James Watson)
Summary: All of the Five fight the Great War in their own ways. Armistice may break them.
I love history fics, and I love the Five fics, and I love when the Five all sleep with each other willy-nilly. This fic does a great job of capturing the emotional impact of the end of the First World War.
Dance Cards (Montague John Druitt (Sanctuary)/Helen Magnus, Helen Magnus/James Watson (Sanctuary), Montague John Druitt (Sanctuary)/James Watson (Sanctuary))
Summary: They've all been dancing for a long time.
Another The Five through history fic, this one reveals the bittersweet shifting of emotional ties as the relationships and the characters themselves change.
Five Nights of Frivolity and Fun at Dr. Helen Magnus’s Home for Absurd Creatures (Helen Magnus, Ashley Magnus, Henry Foss, Bigfoot (Sanctuary), Nikola Tesla, Will Zimmerman)
Summary: five sanctuary game nights.
I am so rarely a gen person, but the created family in this fandom is adorable, and this look at what they do when they're not chasing abnormals is hilarious and touching.
Letting Yourself Be Happy (is harder than it seems) (Charlotte Benoit/Helen Magnus)
Summary: She hadn't anticipated this- hadn't anticipated Charlotte.
I love this because Charlotte gets to be the action hero, in a lovely case of role-reversal.
Not On the Agenda (Helen Magnus/Nikola Tesla
Summary: Nikola takes care of Helen in his own unique fashion. Takes place between "Acolyte" and "The Depths".
Oh, so hot, and yet with all the delightful layers of a century-old friendship/relationship shimmering just under the surface.
Snow Globe (Helen Magnus, Kate Freelander)
Summary: Helen and Kate are left behind during an evacuation and forced to fend for themselves in a harsh environment.
LOVE THIS. I wish there was more Kate fic, and this has some really delightful Magnus characterization as well. Bechdel test passing female-bonding fic :DDD
Unboxing (Henry Foss, Nikola Tesla, Helen Magnus, Will Zimmerman)
Summary: Henry's all set for a night of gaming, but Tesla has other plans for the evening.
Oh, Henry and Nikola are a force to be reckoned with. Um, kind of. Also, one of my favourite things about the show is its own meta-commentary on the genres it plays with, which this captures so well.
Under a Praxian Sky (Helen Magnus/Ranna Seneschal)
Summary: "I'd hoped we'd gained each other's trust."
And of course, last but most certainly not least, my own delightful gift, which continues to amaze. Helen and Ranna and dominance play and moments of frivolity and eeeee. <3
As before, guess my own story and I'll write a ficlet of at least 500 words. I may have narrowed the field a bit. Or, you know, not.
