Help me, flist-wan kenobi: anyone know if there's a good list of fanfic cliches anywhere, in a comm or something? I know about the one on fanlore, but that is both kinks and cliches - I'm looking for cliche-only, stuff like "aliens made them do it" and "stuck in a Canadian shack" and so on. Please and thank you? :D

such_heights hosted a trope fest which included a participant-generated giant list of tropes, if that helps you at all?

where_no_woman ran a commentficfest on this theme a year and change ago -- I'm too lazy right now, but their tag system is pretty comprehensive, shouldn't be too hard to find.

And someone wrote a really good post about how not to write Sanctuary fic, specifically, but I can't find it now -- I know I got there via penknife, so they'd probably know.

But a lot of those seem to me to be more general tropes -- I wouldn't really call "character study" or "darkfic" or "threesomes" or "epistolary fic" cliches. And it's missing some that I think should definitely be in there, like nightmares (lead to comfortsex) and "undercover in a gay bar!"

Yeah, I was thinking compiling one might be an idea! You're right there are some missing - and there are some that I don't really think I want on this list, like crossovers (maybe that's just me), or the magic/fantasy set, which are basically everyday events for this crew. :P

And that way I could get the ball rolling sooner rather than later - with a week or so to compile cliches, a week to post prompts, and then maybe two weeks to write, I could probably start things before New Year's, or thereabouts. *g* And I don't want to wait - I want ALL OF THE FIC, NOW. (Someone HAS TO write Nikola undercover in a gay bar.) But at least now I've got a couple of lists to start from...

Yeah, I don't think of crossovers as necessarily clichefic, and I don't think vampires count as cliches in a fandom that has vampires. It would be a lot of fun!

Hello. *Waves.* Glad you've discovered Sanctuary but - I have to ask - have you had a look at Lost Girl yet? Again, it's an ostensibly Canadian show, but just drawing to the end of its second season, so catching up over the hols might be a possibility if it takes your fancy...and I think it just might. ;o)
