It makes me VERY HAPPY to be able to use these tags again!
"Now there are twelve humanoid models. Some of them actually look like models." BSG so far in eight minutes: frakking awesome. And actually made by SciFi. Win. (Link goes to YouTube for people outside the US, but apparently it's also somewhere on scifi.com.) Interesting that they spell out exactly what happened to Kara in the breeding farm on Caprica - I mean, we knew in general that it was something reproductive-focussed, but I don't think we ever got explicitly told that her ovary was cut out, and O HAI do you think that's going to be at all significant? Survey says yes.
SciFi also released a bunch of promo clips (available here) - very spoilery - and one of them has a hybrid monologue, which we all know makes more sense than it's meant to. So, transcribed here:
an excited state decays by vibrational relaxation into the first excited sequence state yes yes so verily we go
reduce atmospheric nitrogen by 0.03 percent
it is not much consolation that society will pick up the bits leaving us an [something] modern where punishment rather than interdiction is paramount
please cut the fuse they will not harm their own end of line
limiting diffusions to two dimensions increases the number of evolutionary jumps within the species
rise and measure the temple of the five transformation is the goal they will not harm their own [trails off, unintelligible]
OK, so "evolutionary jumps" and "they will not harm their own" and "end of line" all point to more hybrid stuff. "They will not harm their own" suggests that someone is going to be revealed as within the fold - of the colonists, I think - but not what s/he appears to be. And I don't think that the already-revealed Cylons are part of it - they have no "evolutionary jump," nor are they the end of anyone's line.
jennyo and I still want to cling to our certainty that Laura Roslin is the Big Bad - final Cylon, Cylon god, whatever - but the other idea that we've been teasing out is that Roslin is going to turn out to be Kara's mother somewhow. (We figure this is more in keeping with RDM's desire to make the show practically a soap opera.)
In an ideal world, Roslin will still be Cylon-esque and Kara's destiny will turn out to have something to do with being a hybrid - hence the SciFi clip making a point of telling us that her ovary was harvested. But the idea of an evolutionary jump - possibly from the Cylons to Roslin to Kara, and Kara being the end of a line, and then "they will not harm their own" goes both ways because no one's going to hurt Kara, but if they find out that Roslin's Cylon-y AND Kara's mom then Kara will protect her almost for sure. Either that or we get Kara's Oedipal Journey, where she comes back and kills Roslin and then finds out Roslin was her mother (hence the clip of Kara holding the gun on Roslin). And that explains some of Kara's deja vu over being to Earth - collective unconscious?
And it still comes back to that moment in the Temple of Five - who could D'Anna have seen that she would apologise to? Hmmm?
Isn't it amazing how I can twist any little thing to fit my cracked-out theory of where the show's going?
