[my inner teenager is Very Awake]

So uh Wheel of Time is a show now and uh apparently I have some feelings about that. /o\
I loved the books as a teenager, never finished the series, was sort of vaguely looking forward to the show without any expectation of being majorly into it. The first three eps dropped on Amazon on Thursday night and I am IN. DEEP. They've refocussed the series so Moiraine is more central and, look, a) I have loved her for many years and b) I am genuinely delighted to have a female Gandalf-figure? I'm even into the vaguely ridiculous and yet wonderful way they're showing her magic. They've rejigged the magic system so it's (somewhat?) less gender-binary than the books and the casting is both beautifully diverse and spot-on.
I think it's getting inconsistent reviews - I've of course seen a lot of complaints from book lovers who don't know what adaptation means, and from a lot of people who are just plain racist about the casting - but if you've read the books, or if you haven't but you like high fantasy, give it a try? They're filming s2 already, and - unlike, ah, some other series, dunno any, but some - the source series is finished so the showrunner has plotted out several seasons' worth of arc. :P
(Also uh. Teenage me loved Moiraine a lot and I only discovered when revisiting the books like a month ago and finally reading the prequel that she was canonically queer? And the showrunner is also queer and I'm. A little part of mea large part of me is like. Really. Hoping. That we might. See that. On screen? A queer female fantasy central heroine? Having relationships with men and women, if they follow the books for that? Most of me is very IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN YOU FOOL but there is a small flame of hope burning very bright. And there were a couple of moments in ep 3 where I thought they were maybe building up to it. Maybe. PROBABLY NOT but maybe? Oh heck.)
Anyway, if you watch the show, I am APPARENTLY HERE for all your feelings! (So far I even like the boys!)
