[the dream]
Jan. 28th, 2024 03:06 pmSo I got a couple more January talking questions!
catwalksalone asked me What would your ideal femslash canon look like and would you already have a cast in mind?, which is a FANTASTIC question and genuinely made me think quite a lot.
And, okay, not to be completely and totally stuck on my one main fandom right now, but. What I really want out of a canon is: a lot of women; wielding and working within varying levels of power; with shifting alliances and goals; lots of intellectual work and politicking; and both canon and non-canon relationships to explore. And maybe some punching. And mannnnn, Wheel of Time is absolutely going to give me that? The greater focus the show has on the Aes Sedai and the White Tower is basically setting up that exact scenario (except for 'punching,' read 'magic'... but I wouldn't entirely rule out some punching, either). It's full of so many women of all ages, with all sorts of accents, of different body types, of various ethnicities. There are numerous fault lines cutting through the groups. There are conflicting goals within groups who each believe they're in the right. There's so much coming up that I am so excited for.
As for cast, I think in my ideal world, there would be maybe one actress I already know and then a whole bunch of people who surprise me (after all, I would never have discovered Rosamund Pike and Kate Fleetwood and Priyanka Bose if I hadn't been enticed into WOT by Sophie Okonedo). Some people I'd love to see kiss (more) women and be political in a show like this: Michelle Yeoh; Sarah Lancashire; Danae Gurira; Charlize Theron (WHEN is The Old Guard 2 going to release); Florence Pugh; Storm Reid... I could keep going.
That was really fun both to think about in general and to get me excited about more WOT. Thanks, Cat!
