[alicia, i'm tired.]

My favourite shot in this week's The Good Wife (4.03, "Dear God") ...
(side note - I just noticed that this season's episode names are back down to two words. I wonder if they're actively working towards a seven-season arc?)
...anyways, my favourite shot is a shot in which we don't even see Alicia - in fact, I don't think we see any named characters. It's a nice long take, a beautiful tracking shot that runs us through a corridor at speed for nearly ten seconds. We know we're in Alicia's pov not just because of the way the narrative is set up, but also because we get to watch the way everyone else responds to her, leaping out of the way of the camera, literally recoiling from what we can only imagine the expression on her face must look like. This is who Alicia has become - she is a force of nature, or damn near.
And yet she still gets to be selfish and have flights of fancy about her own self-importance, which is just fantastic. Is she coming to believe her own mythology? Is her hubris going to trip her up? WHO KNOWS, but oh man are we ever going to have fun watching her try to balance her morals and her ambitions and Eli's master plan.
This is also going to leave an interesting power vacuum at the top of the firm, with Diane and Cary no doubt playing tug of war.
Also, this ep shows why I don't like the Kalinda/Cary relationship - despite it all, Cary is still just a little too naive for Kalinda. I guess I see why that might be appealing to Kalinda, but it's a bit tiresome, I think. Though it is interesting to think about the ways in which he and Alicia are paralleled and contrasted. He's still that bit more on the side of morality, but think about the two of them and the way they conduct themselves with his pre-trial officer - Cary knows how and when to conceal himself, or tome himself down, but Alicia just isn't willing to do that any longer.
Which is, again, going to make things interesting on the campaign trail.
I still want to be Eli when I grow up.
