Me: *two fics into stories about how Warehouse 13 should do more artifacty things that reflect the fact that it's filmed in Canada*
W13 writer's twitter: Tonight on #Warehouse13: Pete and Myka play ice hockey! (this episode was legally required by the Canadian government)#taxcredits
Me: Well played, Warehouse. Well played.
W13: And let's add a Toronto-Edmonton game. How d'ya like them apples?
Me: *sigh*
I kind of loved the first half of this ep and then hated the second half. Usually what I adore about W13 is that it takes a cliche, grabs it, acknowledges it, and twists it around. This ep took a bunch of cliches, lampshaded them, and never quite bothered to transcend them.
I am not entirely sure how we got from "I'm happy my sister's pregnant but that's so not part of my life plan right now" Myka at the beginning of the show to "you think I'll make a good mom" Myka at the end, ugh. The "it's okay that your younger sister is succeeding at being a woman but DON'T WORRY, you'll get there" theme in this really frustrated me. All the pregnancyjokes were not funny And while Pete was great - right down to not admitting that he and Myka totally love each other - Myka was just... not very Myka? Sigh.
I do love that they're messing up the typical partnerships, so we got Jinks and Artie, and Claudia and Mrs. Frederick. If Claudia becomes immortal, what does that do to the metronome?
I actually feel like this was just a poorly-written episode in general. Lots of awkward dialogue. Rushed out, maybe? Don't be like this, show! I want to keep loving youuuu.
As an aside, when I was making lists of artifacts (seriously, everyone does this, right?), one of the Canadian ones I had in mind was the lucky loonie. When they started talking about how the player only performed on home ice I thought for sure they were going to go there. I would have died.
