YULETIDE RECS from my first pass through the archive! I am sorry to be so brief about what makes each story awesome, but there are 30-some recs in 20-some fandoms here and, well, I don't have time to squee as comprehensively as all these stories deserve.

First off, of course I have to re-pimp the fic for meeeee. A Brief Interlude is a Phedre/Nicola story from the Kushiel's series, set post-Avatar. I wanted a closer look at how the characters relate together and this story gives me that beautifully. There are so many layers to the relationship that are exposed here – it is sweet and hot and exactly what I wanted.

Margaret Sidney - Five Little Peppers series:
Polly Pepper's New Friends - this absolutely captures the feel of the books and makes me want to go dig my tattered, ancient copy of the first one out of the basement for a good re-read.

Mary Poppins:
Overture - I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Wind in the East - A lovely bittersweet Bert/Mary.

Mrs. Pettigrew Lives for a Day:
Mrs Blomfield at the Theatre - Mrs. Pettigrew has another dilemma to solve.

Neil Gaiman – American Gods:
To What Place - Laura, after the book.

Philip Pullman – His Dark Materials:
Beck'ning Shadows Dire - fabulous Marisa backstory.
Forging Fate (The Worlds Collide) - fabulous Asriel backstory.

RPF – Star Wars:
A World That Does Not Exist - um, Harrison Ford/Carrie Fisher? Be still my heart!

Singin' in the Rain:
You're the Cream in My Coffee - Don/Kathy/Cosmo, perfectly in tune with the movie's silliness.

xkcd:
OMGVELOCIRAPTORS! - it includes the phrase "a breeding pair of LOLcats," how can it not be awesome?
The Amazing Adventures of Hat Guy and the Girl Who Stoles His Hat - honestly, this is just hilarious.

Boston Legal:
Fanfare, FanFiction, and the Fourth Wall - it's BL and a case about fanfic. Win.

Contact (movie):
Small Moves - it's exciting to see something in the fandom, and they got Ellie just right.

The Devil Wears Prada:
Her Rightful Place - a lovely Emily-centric Andy/Miranda post-movie tale. Nice and long, too!

Diana Gabaldon – Lord John Grey books:
Waldesruh - John/Stephan; not a pairing I expected to like, but this is a beautiful story and both of them make me go <3.

Die Anstalt:
Selected Notes on the Mysterious Disappearance of Doctor Kindermann - OK, Die Anstalt fic is awesome as a concept, and this is particularly great.

Elizabeth Peters – Amelia Peabody series:
Tomb and Body - a fabulous Sethos story!

Enchanted:
What we stood for and still do - Nancy lives her happily-ever-after. Kind of.

Ian Fleming – James Bond series:
All Cats are Grey in the Dark - The return of an old Bond character!

The Incredibles:
As Close as Hands and Feet - A really cute post-movie Violet and Dash fic.

Indiana Jones:
When the Ground Falls Out from Under Your Feet - a note-perfect Indy, Marion, and Mutt post-Crystal Skull fic.
The Charm - three first times for Indy and Marion.

James Bond: Casino Royale:
Attendant - a lovely bit of almost-Bond/M.
Better Days - a melancholy bit of actual Bond/M.

La Femme Nikita:
Pathways - ah, Madeline and her pragmatism. Gotta love it.

Laurie R King – Mary Russell series:
Miles to Go Before I Sleep - Russell's return to Ali and Mahmoud.

Libba Bray – A Great and Terrible Beauty series:
Whom You Leave Shackled By Love - Felicity, through the books and after, and Pippa.
Joie de Vivre - Felicity in drag, and Gemma in New York!

Love Actually:
Letter to America - post-movie, Karen updates Daniel on how things are going.
As You Mean to Go On - another, totally different but equally apt and awesome, movie epilogue.
Someone You Love - Sarah and Karl try it again.

I would love it if anyone wanted to try and guess what I wrote – I will definitely write fic for successful guesses, and hell, I could probably be talked into writing it for unsuccessful guesses. To narrow things down, I will tell you that I wrote in one of the fandoms above. And no, I did not rec my own story… ;)
