[you think you're very adorable, don't you]
OMG, now that I've seen the episode I want somebody to write me my badwrong Wicked/Glee femslash RPS OTP even more than ever. *stamps feet* I might have to write it myself just to exorcise it, if no one does it for me... *g*
1x04: Ummmm, this show is basically made to make me happy. I am pretty much okay with that. The riff on the ubiquity of "Single Ladies" plus the use of it to challenge the masculinity of football? For the win. (Even if more than half of me was shouting that you CANNOT do that in football, even American football, even American high school football... and as if Kurt wouldn't have been tackled about five seconds before he kicked that ball... BUT this show is not quite about realism.) I also give it high points for putting Kurt on the football team, giving him actual talent, and not crushing his little gay soul. I sincerely hope we see more of him during games.
Also: epic hearts for Kurt coming out to his dad, and his dad knowing. I thought that was done brilliantly. Aw, Kurt.
I would be more distressed about the Quinn pregnancy storyline if not for two things. One, I love that Quinn is handling the whole thing a lot more competently than Terri is, which says a lot about the commentary the show is trying to make on the high school attitudes of the adults. And two, there is no way that it's not going to blow up in her face at some point in the very near future, so I am interested to see what's going to happen.
Finn breaking down on Will was also awesome, and I love that despite how stereotype-y this show can be, it's willing to give its characters moments like that. Both Puck and Finn transcend the typical tv-teen-jock in this episode.
Also, Sue. I love her more and more each episode. Not a fan of Sandy being allowed to come back to school after being dismissed on - shall we be timely and call it a "morals charge"? - but the alliance of evil is pretty amazing. And Rachel's solo was incredible.
1x05: LOOOOOVE. I like that Will gets to be wrong about things - in this case, bringing back April. I loooooved April. I mean, she was Kristen Chenoweth, so of course I loved her, but I loved her even more than I expected to. I so want to see her back at some point. (I also kind of want ST-y April/Will, because, awww. Their karaoke was so sweet!) Her 'duet' with Rachel was A-MA-ZING, too.
And oh, Will, didn't you know that setting April out to make friends with the Glee kids was a bad idea? I desperately want an icon of her coming out of the football showers, also. But Kurt getting drunk (and puking on Emma, omg, "the full Silkwood" *dies*) was kind of brilliant.
So awesome to see Finn being all manipulate-y, too - it's not just the girls on this show, which is very cool. And Rachel kind of getting over herself was great.
Basically, loved it, want more, bring back April, yay Rachel's back, I still think the show is amazing and shiny and leaves me full of, well, glee.
So, I watched the first two eps of Eastwick, and I am so inappropriately attracted to Paul Gross as Darryl van Horne that it's actually distracting. Especially when he's all rained on and soaking wet in his nice suit. Hi. Also, Rebecca Romjin! It's a good thing there are pretty people on it, because there are not a lot of other things that would keep me watching this (which must be the least feminist pseudo-feminist-y show on television AND THAT IS SAYING A LOT OKAY), and yet here I am.
Basically I cringe at the whole thing, like, I suspect they're going for the women-power-rise-up situation, you know, all these women are eventually going to Make Something Of Themselves by using Their Own Internal Power. And I get that there has to be some sort of meteoric rise for that to become apparent. But really, does each and every one of these gals have to be quite so pathetic? Roxie is probably the least so of all of them, but that's not saying a whole lot, and, ugh. They're all just so soppy, and it drives me mad. I don't really care about any of them, except to roll my eyes. (OK, maybe I like Roxie a bit. And the reporter, when she's not being a total doofus, except clearly I don't even like her enough to know her name.) And before you ask, this is not endemic to the concept itself, because the movie characters were at least somewhat more interesting (and also played by much better actresses).
That said, I find the story actually relatively entertaining. I'm still not sure how they're going to spin it into a whole season, much less anything beyond that, but as it stands it's not horrible. Plus Paul Gross is so unrepentantly, well. Irreverent? Sardonic? No wait, I've got it - devilish. (Ha, yes, I do think I'm clever, thank you.)
