OH GOD SARAH JANE. SARAH JANE IS AWESOME LIKE BURNING.
OK, so, I went into the first ep of Torchwood hoping it would be awesome, and it was, you know, it was good, there were some good parts, but it wasn't as awesome as I'd hoped.
I went into Sarah Jane Adventures crossing my fingers and toes and hoping against hope that it would be good, because it could be great, I knew it could… and oh, it was FABULOUS. OK, there were, like, two bits I didn't like, but neither of them were really about SJ, so. LOVE.
Um. Capslock warning?
Even the outfit wasn't as bad as I'd expected. OK, it wasn't great and I'm firmly in favour of Lis's black leather movement, but it was not bad. The coat was quite nice. She's really quite short in flats, isn't she? If the kid playing Luke grows much more they're going to have to start putting her in platform heels.
ALSO. Sarah has a wrist computer thingie. Not to mention the SONIC LIPSTICK. Which she KISSED. I am dead of squee. And! She was reading poetry to/with the lesbian alien from Torchwood! And, dude, her special booty call mobile saved the day! Seriously.
Mrs Wormwood was just OTT enough but not too much, and I am very glad she's not dead because that means she can come back. And talk more about Sarah Jane being narrow-hipped and it being a waste that she's single.
I had several moments where I actually had to pause and rewind to allow for squee, but of course I don't remember them now. They did include her little "I need glasses" bit because I so love that 1) they're not ignoring her age and 2) based on her freakish resemblance to Laura Roslin, Sarah Jane in glasses is going to be damn hot. I loved almost all of it. Sarah's attic is the new shagging destination (not for the kids ew). Speaking of kids, I liked Maria and Luke and had not expected to - they were both really good. And oh, how sweet was it that Sarah wanted to name hin Harry or Alistair? Eee.
Ooh, Sarah Jane knows all about Torchwood and disapproves, while I bet Torchwood doesn't know anything about SJ. Hee.
I am intrigued by the motherhood theme in the show. I already think RTD has serious Mommy Issues, or at the very least Parent Issues, and the Bane Mother as well as Sarah's own childless-childed status change was interesting. I'm a bit sad that we couldn't just keep lonely SJ without having to give her a kid, but I'm ok with that, I think. We'll see how the rest of the series goes.
I have to say I thought K9 Innnn Spaaaaace was a bit dumb (although how heartbreaking was SJ in that moment?). And Kelsey was kind of crap, and I'm a little tired of getting the "Sarah was nothing without the Doctor" shoved down my throat ("I had bills again" = good, some of the rest = bad). But that was very very small in the face of the other fabulousness.
I cannot BELIEVE we have to wait to get more of this. It made me giddy and gleeful and even more in love with the fabulous Sarah Jane who keeps cacti probably because she's afraid she'd kill anything else (which should make things… interesting…). And they call this a kids' show. Hmf. ;)
Yes, I totally forwent watching the last two eps of Torchwood in favour of this. I have no regrets, despite the fact that I might not get to watch TW till *gasp* tomorrow. Oh, this having-a-life thing, it gets so in the way.
