omg three weeks to Comic-Con. *squees a little*
Anyways. So upon reflection, I'm not sure if I'm impressed because Brandon Routh was good, or because he was so brilliant an heir to Christopher Reeve. Because especially when he was Clark... he was Reeve's version of the character. Which, hey, works great for me, so I'm not complaining. I loved him a lot.
It's hilarious, but I think my favourite character moment of the movie was after Superman lands the plane, he steps inside and says "Statistically, flying is still the safest way to travel." I thought that was so perfectly Boy Scout-y. Hee. That and blowing out Lois's cigarette lighter (although well done, mother with asthmatic son, oy).
Generally, I enjoyed it very, very much. Luthor's plan was not exactly the most logical, but it was cold and calculating and he carried it off well. And the beating-Superman-up scene was done brilliantly - beautifully low-key.
I would have liked to see a bit more Clark, although I don't know where - I just so enjoy the way that Superman and the awareness of Superman always underlies Clark's self-performance, and I thought that was captured really well in the film.
Also at points I thought Lois was a bit flat, and although Kitty was generally fabulous I had a moment or two where I didn't much like her either. But overall, it was a lovely movie and a lovely homage that managed to take the franchise that had set it up seriously and treat it well while still doing something new with it. I would see it again, yes.
And, um, looking up Margot Kidder to see what she's doing now has brought me the vaguely disturbing discovery that she was in an ep of The L Word. Um. *blink*
