[a love song for your new boyfriend]
Oh my god, this weekend! I did not know that something could be simultaneously that awesome and yet so much of a gongshow! I am pretty sure that I have never had such a series of ridiculous failures in a row. And yet everything turned up roses, pretty much, so I shouldn't complain too much.
But like, Saturday started with helping a friend move, with added emotional instability and also he forgot to mention he was moving up four flights of stairs. Saturday afternoon, the bus to the station was late, so I missed the train while queueing for tickets. Bought a ticket that was more expensive than I was expecting, didn't realize that it was because the lady sold me the wrong thing. On the train, halfway to London, I realized what I'd forgotten to pack, necessitating overpriced and inferior replacements be bought at the station. Sunday morning I meant to do some leisurely snacking and writing at the Southbank Centre before my movie, only to discover it packed with All The Festivals Ever, plus I missed out on seeing
ladyvivien, who I didn't learn till too late was just round the corner. Went to the cinema; it turned out that the ticket I'd booked by clicking on the "Weekend" link on the website was in fact for two weeks in the future (no, I don't get it either). AND FINALLY, when I eventually went home I had to wait an hour for a train from Victoria because they'd changed the times. OH.MY.GOD. Like, seriously, what gods did I piss off? :P
None of it dampened my spirits at all, though. I mean, whatever, right? It was a gorgeous weekend, there are always worse things, and of course the major upside is that I will now be back in London Sunday 23rd, so I can see people! (This means you. Shall we? Let's.)
And the weekend was lovely. We did an Avengers viewing-and-themed-cocktails at
such_heights' and film, friends, and drinks were lovely. Even better, though, was in-person squeeing about Warehouse 13 with
carawj,
cosmic_llin, and
silly_cleo.
silly_cleo and I had some serious moments over Myka in 3.03 and
carawj and I hit pitches with our voices that I'm sure set dogs howling around the neighbourhood, though I think my favourite moment was when
cosmic_llin came up, looked at me very intently, and said, "If this hasn't happened, I will be very disappointed in you and
sophia_gratia. *theatrical pause* Is there H.G. Wells/Helen Magnus fic?" At which point I died of giggles a little. For all my fantastic fannish friends we're so rarely into the same things at the same times in the same places and I always forget just how much fun being able to literally bounce around each other in person is. :P
Plus!
ladyvivien was watching the pilot that evening and texted me to ask if the ferret stuck around, which was the initial hook I managed to use to subsequently convince
such_heights and
purplefringe to put the series on their next-up lists. It's spreading! Resistance is futile, all shall love it and despair, etc etc. (Me: Yes! You can watch it and then make all the vids!
such_heights: You said that about Sanctuary, too. Me: And I remain undaunted!)
And Sunday, despite the total movie fail, was just stunningly fantastic. It started with enforced Monty Python exposure in the morning (my reaction to the "Bicycle Repair Man" sketch was simply that it was THE most English thing I have EVER seen, and I stand by that), trailed on through people-and-London watching on the banks of the Thames, crossed paths with half the Canadian Paralympic team out touristing, meandered into watching a bit of the Canadians in the wheelchair rugby final on the big screen... I eventually walked down to Vauxhall, enjoyed the weather, and had a fantastic dinner and drinks with my friend Mel. She also linked me to the Fifty Shades Generator (OH SO NSFW OH MY GOD), which is a random text generator that bases itself on, yes, Fifty Shades of Grey, and reading from it over the table was basically worth the price of admission to the entire faily weekend. Oh, and when
silly_cleo texted me about W13 and I explained why I was cracking up, Mel was all "Oh yeah, I've been thinking about starting to watch that myself..." It's like the perfect storm or something.
Plus consistently capslocky emails from
sophia_gratia, who has watched a truly heroic amount of The Good Wife this week, filled me with vindictive glee. :D
So: weekend full of awesome people and giddiness and dorkitude and sun and wandering and relaxation and reading and silliness and good media shared, and take that, universe of minor failures, you're not the boss of me. Negativity be damned! *sunshine powers!!1!*
