So, YULETIDE. Okay, first, my reveal!

I got assigned to [livejournal.com profile] morganize on the basis of having offered RED fic. I meant to avoid offering spy fandoms this year, but, um, I forgot. Also, Helen Mirren in an evening dress with a machine gun may have distracted me. And so I toddled off happily the day I got the assignment and wrote Bang and Burn, which was loads of fun because it's got all sorts of almost-but-not-quite absurd spy details and Cold War-era 'diplomacy' and it's a story about the first time Victoria and Ivan met. So I was quite pleased with that.

But when I got my assignment, there was also a request for The Good Wife Kalinda/Cary or Kalinda/Diane; I had offered the fandom, but not those characters. But when I was first watching The Good Wife, I turned to [personal profile] jae and went "I think I ship Kalinda and Diane!" And [personal profile] jae said "But Diane laughs at the idea of being a lesbian!" And I said, "I know, but I still see it!" So I figured I had to write them as well, since I probably wouldn't outside of Yuletide. It took me a long time to get an idea that would work with canon, but I eventually came up with Ladies Who Lunch, which is about women in the man's world of Chicago and the things they do to get through.

I will be reposting those here shortly, if you don't feel like going to look for them.

However, this year I also had the best luck with who wrote for me. As I mentioned, the fic I got was a sequel to another fic for another recipient. So I basically got two fics. The moment I opened that other fic, the prequel, I thought, [personal profile] jae wrote this. There were giveaways, not only in the formatting and writing but in the contents and the way they lined up so perfectly with thought that I didn't think I'd discussed that much online except with friends. And as far as I knew, [personal profile] jae was the only one of my friends doing Yuletide who'd offered The Good Wife. So I asked her, "Did you write my stories?" and she said "You're not my recipient!" and I thought "...that is some very neat weaseling out of actually answering me, but I will let it slide BUT WHY IS SHE LYING TO ME OMG."

Anyways, last night I was over for NYE and [personal profile] jae and [livejournal.com profile] minnaleigh were practically vibrating with excitement as the reveal got closer. Which is not unusual! But the reveal came, and [personal profile] jae shoved her computer at me and said "READ MY REVEAL POST," and I took one look and saw my stories listed and said "I KNEW IT." And then I read the REST of the lines and went "WAIT A MINUTE OH MY GOD." Because [livejournal.com profile] minnaleigh and [personal profile] jae COWROTE BOTH STORIES.

It turns out that [livejournal.com profile] minnaleigh had been assigned to me at the same time as [personal profile] jae had been assigned the same fandom, and they decided to collaborate and came up with the most amazing set of fics ever. I never in a million years would have guessed that BOTH of them had conspired against me! :DDD

Now, first, I didn't even know that [livejournal.com profile] minnaleigh had OFFERED to write The Good Wife; if I had, my pool of suspects definitely would have been larger. And second, if I'd thought about it I would have expected that [livejournal.com profile] minnaleigh and I would get assigned to each other at some point, but never in a fandom of THIS (relative) size. She and I share a brain in regards to a lot of what we read, and I would have expected us to match on something much smaller in a book 'verse, not in a TV 'verse! So I owe a massive thank-you to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] minnaleigh for getting assigned me and not completely freaking out, as well as to both of them for coming up with the idea and executing it so perfectly.

Oh, and thanks to those of you who knew or betaed and kept quiet, even when I was chatting with you and so on. :P

So I'm so glad I was over there for the reveal, because a) I'm sure my OH MY GOD face was epic and b) I got to thank them both in person. I am so lucky, you guys. :D Yuletide is always a bright spot, but this year it was even brighter.
